Well, a new device streamlines that idea...

Tyler Freeman is the co-inventor of DrumPants, a gadget that features wearable sensors that can transform any item of clothing into a musical instrument.

"You just put these little stickies on your clothes - and then you can just put the strips on, take them off, put them in a different outfit. We wanted to make it really modular..." (:08)
The sensors go underneath your clothes, and they're linked to an app that allows you to decide what sound is attached to each sensor.
From there, you just tap the sensors with your hands - and voila, music!

Freeman says he got this idea while riding mass transit in San Francisco - watching people do nothing but stare vacantly at their smartphones.

"And I figure with the DrumPants, when you're in those situations, you can be actually making music - either for yourself with headphones on, or you can be jamming with your friends..." (:10)
And when he wears a clip-on speaker, he sure gets attention...

"They'll be turning their heads - be like 'What is going on?!' And then, they'll just stop - and like this smile will creep up on their face - and they'll like (say): 'Where do I get those? I want to buy those!' (laughs) That's usually the reaction I get." (:12)
